Era University, Lucknow, observed World Patient Safety Day 2026 on Saturday, September 19, 2026, with a programme centred on the World Health Organization (WHO) theme “Safe Care for Non-Communicable Diseases” and the accompanying message “Safe Care for Life”. The programme was organised at the Mini Auditorium, University Building, Era University, Lucknow
The event was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Amita Jain, Executive Director & CEO, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rae Bareli (U.P.), as the Chief Guest. The programme commenced with a formal opening, introduction of the Chief Guest and a traditional welcome with a candle bouquet.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Era University, Prof. (Dr.) Abbas Ali Mahdi, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of patient safety as an integral component of quality healthcare and responsible medical practice.
The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Amita Jain, was warmly felicitated by the organisers as a mark of respect and appreciation for her gracious presence and valuable contribution. Addressing the gathering, she emphasised the need for safe, effective and patient-centred healthcare practices, particularly in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. Drawing upon relevant case scenarios, she highlighted the importance of applying evidence-based approaches to identify potential risks, make informed clinical decisions and ensure better patient care. Her address underscored the importance of strengthening healthcare systems and adopting practices that minimise preventable risks and improve patient outcomes.
As part of the programme, Prof. (Dr.) Sucheta Dandelkar, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, delivered a presentation on “Patient Safety Interventions at Era University,” highlighting various measures and initiatives undertaken by the University towards strengthening patient safety.
The event also showcased various patient safety initiatives through informative videos presented by Dr. Vaibhav Shukla, Department of Medicine; Dr. Geetika Srivastava, Department of Paediatrics; Dr. Anuja Bhargava; Departments of ENT and Dr. Bharti Nigam; Department of Ophthalmology. The presentations highlighted the departments’ ongoing efforts to strengthen patient safety, promote adherence to safe clinical practices, minimise preventable risks, and enhance the overall quality and effectiveness of patient care.
The nursing perspective on patient safety was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Priscilla Samson, Principal, Era’s College of Nursing, who highlighted the crucial role of nurses in ensuring safe and effective patient care.
The programme concluded with closing remarks by Prof. (Dr.) Farzana Mahdi, Pro Vice Chancellor, Era University. In her address, she highlighted the initiatives being undertaken at Era University to promote patient-centred care, strengthen awareness of patient safety practices, encourage adherence to standard protocols, and minimise preventable risks and errors in healthcare delivery.
The event came to an end with the Vote of Thanks by Prof. Jamal Masood, Principal, Era’s Lucknow Medical College & Hospital, Era University, Lucknow.
The event provided an important platform for more than 200 healthcare professionals, faculty members and students to reflect upon the significance of patient safety and reaffirm their commitment to delivering safe, quality and patient-centred healthcare.
