Department of Radiology

Diagnostic Facilities

  • The radio-diagnosis and Imaging Department of ELMC&H are at par with most of the recently advanced centers. Hence, is one of the most well-equipped department which offers a plethora of radiology services to suit every need and holds a key position for learning and training in the domain of radiology. It is also coined as one of the best centers of its kind in North India.
  • The department has recently been equipped with Siemens SOMATOM Force 384 slices Dual Source CT scanner which has the fastest acquisition time of any similar device, allowing chest and abdomens scan under a second without breath holding and cardiac imaging within a heartbeat. It also features capabilities for low-dose scanning with previously unavailable resolutions, allowing for imaging of patients even with reduced renal function.
  • SOMATOM Force allows for a radiation dose reduction of up to 50% less than today's leading CT systems. In combination with its outstanding spatial resolution, unprecedented soft-tissue contrast unmatched speed, this can help improve the early detection of occult lesions, in the lung or the colon. Providing the industry's highest native temporal resolution of 66ms at 0.25 s rotation, SOMATOM Force helps to minimize motion artifacts in the challenging cases particularly obese or elderly patients, unconscious or uncooperative cases, or in small children. Increasing scan speed to unmatched 737 mm/s, and providing a field of view of up to 50 cm at flash speed coverage, the Turbo Flash mode expands the Flash Spiral capabilities. Its Turbo Flash scanning allows performing the examination without breath-holding in the dyspneic patient. SOMATOM Force drastically increases sensitivity and specificity in Dual Source Dual Energy (DSDE) scanning, by allowing an up to 30% higher energy separation for a more precise differentiation of tissue types in oncology and cardiovascular cases. Interventions, CT guided procedures (FNAC & Biopsies), CT Angiography Cardiac CT & Perfusion studies are being performed on regular basis.
  • The Department has also acquired a state of the art MRI MACHINE (HITACHI, JAPAN), with high resolution and very precise diagnostic efficiency. It has become very valuable in the diagnosis of diseases of the CNS and musculoskeletal system. Dedicated mammography coil is of help in MR Mammogram. Diffusion and MRCP sequences have excellent results.
  • Besides, the department also possesses three Color Doppler and four latest grayscale Ultrasound machines equipped with all four probes.
  • Visceral and small organs like breast, thyroid, eye, thorax, intracranial, musculoskeletal, scrotal ultrasound sounds, peripheral vascular studies, carotid, peripheral limb, renal, penile, and fetal color Doppler studies are being done regularly.
  • Intervention & USG guided procedures like P.C.N.(percutaneous nephrostomy), P.T.B.D. (percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage), TRUS Guided Biopsy, Sonosalpingography, FNAC, Biopsy(Both USG and CT Guided), and Abscess Drainage are also being performed routinely.
  • The hospital is also equipped with 6 Fixed X-Ray machines: 800mA with IITV(MOTORIZED TABLE), 800mA with fluoroscopy, 600mA with IITV and 600mA, 500mA, 300mA X-ray machines with Z Dental X-Ray and 6 portable x-ray machines. The 800mA fluoroscopy unit has been imported from Japan & the 500mA unit has a fully motorized table for 5 positions with Fluoroscopy and Spot Film Device used for a special procedure like HSG, Barium Studies, Cholangiogram, IVP, MCU, RGU, and Fistulograms. A Digital Subtraction Angiography Machine (Philips Allura FDIO) has been installed in our hospital and various interventions and angiographic procedures are being performed regularly. Our dedicated Mammography machine has both.
  • Molybdenum and Rhodium Filters. The department has been installed with Digital Radiography Machine of Fujifilm Corpn. (Japan) which has increased the picture resolution with better diagnostic accuracy.

Department Of Radiotherapy

  • The Department of Radiotherapy has recently been established in the college. The department looks after the cancer patients and also runs diagnostic workshops for the tumor cases. Chemotherapy is being carried out as routine and we propose to start Radiation Oncology Unit in the near future.
