COURSE OVERVIEW

This course is designed to assist students in developing expertise and in-depth understanding in the field of Psychiatric Nursing. It will help students to appreciate the patient as a holistic individual and develop skill to function as a psychiatric nurse. It will further enable the student to function as educator, manager and researcher in the field of Psychiatric nursing.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

  • Explain the Dynamics of Personality Development and Human Behaviour
  • Demonstrate Therapeutic Communication Skills
  • Demonstrate various Therapeutic Modalities
  • Establish and Maintain Therapeutic Relationship which promotes Self-Esteem of Patients
  • Provide care for Patients with Mental Disorders
  • Comprehend the Psychopharmacological Agents, their Effects and the Role of Nurses
  • Identify the various types of Alternative System of Medicines used in Psychiatric Settings
  • Incorporate Evidence Based Nursing Practice and Identify the Areas of Research in the Field of Psychiatry
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
  • The Minimum education requirements shall be the passing of: B.Sc. Nursing/B.Sc. Hons. Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
  • The candidate should have undergone in B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Minimum one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
