Academic Activities


  • Department of Orthopedic Surgery is catering to the teaching of disease of the musculoskeletal system to both medical and paramedical students of this institution. Students are taught in a lipoclastic manner by well-prepared lectures, bedside teaching. Demonstrations with special emphasis on clinical and practical teaching and training of every student with the aim to produce clinician capable of delivery efficient first contact Orthopedic care.

Under Graduate Teaching


  • V VI VIII semester teaching classes, Morning and Evening bedside teaching inwards, Demonstration classes for instruments, specimen, X. Ray, Operative procedures, Fracture reduction technique.

Post Graduate Teaching


  • Department of Orthopedic provides basic and advanced training of Orthopedics to the postgraduate student. Teaching Program is included to provide students better understanding and knowledge of various aspects of Orthopedic. Students are exposed to the whole range of Orthopedic case and rehabilitation, from ward work to outpatient care and management of the emergency. Teaching Programs for postgraduates are conducted as a daily basis in the afternoon under the supervision of all faculty members and it consists of :
    • Monday: Case presentation
    • Tuesday: Journal Club
    • Thursday: Clinical Meet- LT-IV
    • Friday: Seminar

Treatment Facilities


Department of Orthopedics at ELMC & H is well staffed and equipped with state of the art facility with a functional trauma unit to carry out all routine and emergency operations. Apart from treating patients for various common Orthopedic procedures and trauma patients, special clinics are held for a backache and spine related processes.


  • Various types of internal and external fixation for fracture point.
  • Joint replacement surgery ( Hemiarthroplasty, THR & Knee Replacement.
  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Arthroscopy procedure.
  • Spinal surgery like pedicel screw fixation & discectomy PLIF, TLIF &. Spine Fusion procedure.
  • Backache CCTV and Joint clinic.
  • Round the clock emergency services for all types of Orthopaedic problems.

Research Activities


The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Era's Lucknow Medical college is actively involved in research activities. Faculty Members regularly participate in various national and state level conferences to update their skills and to learn about newer techniques in the field of Orthopedics. Research works of our faculty members have been published in various national and international journals and they have presented their works at various conferences. Department is involved in carrying out both laboratory and clinical research related to Orthopedics that is beneficial for our population. Currently, our department is carrying out three research projects under the able supervision of faculty members.


Thesis Topics & Research Activity


  • Clinico-radiological assessment of fracture both bone forearm/ fracture of tibia treated with titanium elastic nailing system versus k- wire fixation in children up to 12 years of age.
  • Correlation of vitamin D level with the severity of osteoporosis in elderly patients and evaluating the effect of adding vitamin D in the treatment of osteoporosis.
  • Role of methotrexate monotherapy along with vitamin D in newly diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis.
