Programme Overview

This is a 2 years or four Semester course which involves regular teaching, assignments, patient care of indoor and outdoor Patients, Field postings, arranging Eye care camps and research through dissertation projects. Educative seminars, hands-on training sessions, update workshops and special lectures will be conducted by the Department of Optometry. The medium of instruction for this post graduate course in Optometry will be English. Intake and allocation of seats - 20 seats in every batch. The attendance in theory and practical classes and clinical postings is mandatory. The students who are short of attendance are not allowed to appear in the university examinations. The degree shall be awarded when a candidate clears all papers in all the four semesters without any back paper.

OBJECTIVES

They will be responsible and helpful to:

  • To create postgraduate Optometry teachers with strong academic and research background who will help develop the science of Optometry.
  • Develop expertise in assessment, evaluation, planning and intervention in achieving eye care needs of the Indian society.
  • Actively participate in community optometry programs to achieve the goals of Vision 2020 and the national program for prevention of blindness.
  • Effectively organise and participate in vision screening eye camps to help control blindness.
  • Enhance knowledge from clinical experience, interactions & Discussions and research to improve the quality of training and education in Optometry.
  • Build Up leadership qualities in education, practice and administration.
  • Contribute to emerging and vitally important industry through research.
  • Practice independently as a primary eye care practitioner and render eye care services for the benefit of the society.
  • Maintain collaborative relationship with members of other disciplines to improve health care.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Are bright; As an expert Optometrist to work in any advanced Eye care centre or to work as Teacher in any academic institution. The options are:

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

The minimum educational requirement shall be the passing of Bachelor in Optometry from any recognized University with minimum 50% marks.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

The program shall be for 2 academic years or 4 semesters


NUMBER OF SEATS

A total of 20 candidates will be enrolled in each academic year based on their performance in the entrance test and interview.

Fees: Shall be intimated to the candidates at the time of Admission.
