Era University celebrated 77th Republic Day with much gaiety. Large number of faculty members, employees and students attended the function in the forecourt of the University building. Function started with the unfurling of the national flag by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abbas Ali Mahdi. Students of the University sang the national anthem on the occasion. Thereafter Hon’ble Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering.
Prof. Dr. Abbas Ali Mahdi in his speech mentioned the importance of the day and why Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January. He spoke in detail about the adaptation of the constitution on this day. He said that our constitution is not only the supreme law of the country but it also establishes the structure, procedures, powers, and duties of the government and its institutions and also defines the rights and duties of citizens. He said that our constitution declares India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic, and gives the citizens right to justice, equality and liberty, and endeavors to promote fraternity. He spoke in detail about the role of Bharat Ratan Baba sahib Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar as Chairman of the drafting committee of the constitution and other details about the constitution.
Prof. Mahdi spoke about the progress made by the University during the last one year. He said that the Government of India has approved an increase of MBBS seats from 200 to 250. He talked about various academic accomplishments of the Medical College, Nursing College, Pharmacy College and other institutions of the University during the last year. He complimented the staff and employees for their contributions and appealed to them to continue to work with dedication and devotion for the further upliftment of the institution and contribute to nation building.
