Symposium on Stem Cell Technology for Neurodegenerative diseases

 

The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Era University, Lucknow organized a symposium under the aegis of Indian Academy of Neurosciences (IAN) on "Stem Cell Technology for Neurodegenerative diseases" on March 9, 2019. Indian Academy of Neurosciences (Lucknow Chapter) has brought together the leaders in the field of stem cell therapy for neurological disorders for a comprehensive overview of this rapidly expanding area of research and development in India.

The symposium covered the topics relevant to the pursuit of emerging trends and technologies in stem cell biology and neurosciences including fundamentals of stem cell biology and its state-of-the-art application in Neurological clinical research. The event could see the light of the day because of the concerted efforts of Prof. Abbas Ali Mahdi, Vice Chancellor, Era University and Dr. Syed Shadab Raza, Assistant Dean, F/o- Basic Medical Sciences, Era University.

Dr. Syed Shadab Raza welcomed the gathering and briefed them about the on-going research activities in the University related to stem cell and neuroscience research.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Era University, Prof Abbas Ali Mahdi focused on the need of state of art facilities to encourage the Stem Cell research in India, especially in the area of Neurological Disorders. He pledged Era University’s full commitment and cooperation to achieve this goal. He announced that Era University, under his esteemed leadership has decided to open a full-fledged department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, as well the Department of Neuroscience from the current year.

Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Director- Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow was the Chief Guest of the function. He emphasized the need for Regenerative Medicinal research in India in his inaugural speech.

The guest speakers were invited from All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, National Centre for Brain Research etc. The program was attended by Former CEO, Biotech Park Prof. P. K. Seth as the guest of honor, Secretary IAN, Dr. Vinay Kr. Khanna, Prof. Rakesh Shukla, King George Medical College, Dr. Kashif Haneef, Central Drug Research Institute, and Faculties, Staff, Ph.D., Post Graduate and Graduate students of the University. The symposium witnessed more than 200 fellows.

Dr. Sudip Sen, Associate Professor, AIIMS, New Delhi delivered a talk on “Using fetal neural stem cells as a disease model in cerebral palsy, Dr. Pankaj Seth, NBRC, Manesar said about “Understanding Virus-Induced Neurogeneration with Human Neural Stem Cells and Principal Scientist of CSIR-IITR, Lucknow, Dr. A.B.Pant gave a talk on “Human IPSC derived model of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and disease association with developmental neurotoxicity.

On this occasion, Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor of Era University Lucknow & Director Academics ELMC, Prof. Farzana Mahdi, Prof. Anu Chandra, Registrar, Prof. Tasleem Raza, COE, Prof. Riyaz Mehdi, Dean, F/o Paramedical Sciences, Prof. Jalees Fatima, Head, Department of Medicine and many faculty members of Era University were also present in the Symposium.
