Borrowing, Renewal & Reservation, Fine and Damage/Lost

Borrowing Limits

  • Students & Faculty: Textbooks May be issued as per need for one week (7days)

Reference Book only for overnight

  • Non-teaching Staff: 1 text Items
  • Periodical / Magazine: will be issued only for Xerox (maximum time limit 30 min.)
  • Some books in the Library are designated as ‘Library Copy’ (they must be used in the Library only).
  • These titles can, however, be borrowed overnight (taken after 10.00pm and returned by 10.00am the next day).
  • Users will be asked to show their College ID or give their personal mobile no. each time they wish to borrow library materials. They will also sign in the book issue register

Renewals and Reservations

  • Loan items can be renewed for another week, providing they have not been reserved by another borrower. All other loan categories cannot be renewed.
  • You will be unable to renew items if you have over in fines or an item has reached its maximum renewals allowance.
  • You will need to return any items reaching maximum renewals to the Library. If there are no reservations on the items you will be able to borrow them again providing this does not exceed your borrowing limits.
  • You will be physically handed over to book issue counter for renewal.
  • You can reserve items on the Library Catalogue both in the Library and from home.
  • Please note that we are unable to accept reservation requests by telephone.
  • When an item is returned to the Library an email will be automatically sent to your email account to say that your reservation is ready for collection from the Library Desk. You can also check the status of your reservation by clicking on the 'OPAC' link
  • Your reservation will be kept at the Library Desk for one week; if you fail to collect your reservation within this period it will either be made available to the next borrower in the reservation queue or returned to the shelves if there is no queue.

Fines

In order to ensure that our stock is used effectively, we do charge fines when items are not returned on time. These are as follows:
  • Rs. 05 per day for loan materials.
  • Rs. 20 per day for reference books
  • Rs. 50 per day for overnight books
  • Rs. 200 for Lost or Damage ID card
Please note that borrowing privileges may be withdrawn if you have any outstanding fines

Damaged or lost books/periodicals

  • If any book or periodical is damaged or lost, the borrower will have to replace the item or pay double the cost of items. If a volume from a multi volume set is lost or damaged the price of the whole set will be charged, unless the individual volume can be obtained separately, in which case the cost of the particular volume will be recovered.
