Era's Lucknow Medical College & Hospital, Era University Lucknow organised a Public Awareness Rally on the occasion of World TB Day 2018.

A rally was organized in Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital on the occasion of World TB Day to make the public aware about menace of tuberculosis which started at 8:00 am from Principal’s office and culminated at University building at 10:00 am. Rally was addressed by Dr. Abbas Mahadi, Vice Chancellor Era University, Dr. M M A Faridi and Dr Rajendra Prasad.
More than 200 people participated in the rally. Speaking on this occasion Prof. Abbas Ali Mahdi, Vice Chancellor Era university informed everyone that under the leadership of Prof. Rajendra Prasad Era university campus will be made free of TB within 1 year. Speaking on this occasion, Professor Rajendra Prasad, Professor and Head, Pulmonary Medicine, Era’s Lucknow Medical College, Vice Chairman National Task Force RNTCP and former Director, Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, Delhi , emphasized that although tuberculosis is curable and preventable disease, in spite of that last year, 10.4 million new cases of TB occurred and 17,00,000 people died globally. India accounts for about one fourth of global disease and death. Out of estimated 28 lacs cases in India, only 14lacs have been diagnosed and treated in the government sector. He further elaborated that poor management of existing sensitive and drug resistant tuberculosis patients is the real reason behind the morbidity and mortality caused by this disease.
Speaking about Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR) and Extensively Drug Resistant TB (XDR TB), it is estimated that 6,00,000 MDR cases emerged globally and 1,47,000 cases of MDR TB emerged in India last year. Out of estimated 1,47,000 MDR TB cases in India, only 39000 (27%) cases were diagnosed and were started on treatment. He further said, about 73% cases of MDR TB are not coming to the government programme. How they are treated outside the program, nobody knows about it and their records are also missing. He further emphasized that Government is providing very costly drugs to MDR and XDR TB patients and stressed that patients of MDR and XDR TB should avail this free service from the Government, to prevent death in tuberculosis and finally eliminating this disease altogether. On this occasion Dr. SaurabhKarmakar , Associate Professor, Dr. Abhishek Agarwal , Associate Professor ,Dr. AnamikaVerma, Assistant Professor, Dr. AnandVerma , Senior Medical Officer and all PG Residents also participated.
